May asked, "Are you connected with the earth and sky and trees? What you do brings life to earth or kills the birds and bees." I thought of all I'd done and said and what I wished to be; I meditated long and hard 'til I could finally see I wasn't being connected. "Everything doesn't have to be connected," Dave said. "Sometimes those connections are just things in your head." But it was harder to believe this when he was all alone. Sometimes integrity usurps the ego's throne. He wasn't being connected. The axon’s connected to the synapse, the synapse connected to the dendrite, the dendrite connected to the neuron, the neuron’s connected to the axon… June said, "One time, Grandma had to go out in a storm. She tied the clothesline to her waist and walked out to the barn. The wind was blowing snow around; she faced anxiety. But her connection led her back, 'though she could barely see." She was being connected.

We were slamming, we were jamming, We were jamming to a higher vibration. We were grokking, we were rocking, We were rocking to the underground station. It didn't matter if you were half their age, If you were connected to the music on stage. Music had the power to make you feel all those things that you thought weren't real. We were moving, we were grooving, we were grooving to a sonic sensation. We were screaming, we were dreaming We were dreaming of a new aspiration. I stood near a cliff looking out to sea, multi-colored aviators over me, Fragrant flavors floating in the air, Whispering winds whistled through my hair, Castles in the sky looking down on there. All it took was one taste of Strawberry Jam. We were pumping, we were jumping, we were jumping at a manifestation. We were trying, we were crying, we were crying with tears of elation. It didn't matter if you were half their age, If you were connected to the music on stage. Music had the power to make you feel all those things that you thought weren't real. Moving and grooving, gleaming, screaming, and dreaming. Pumping and jumping, cramming, slamming, and jamming.

Blessed are the gentle summer breezes that cause the willow oak leaves to dance and giggle and drink up the carbon dioxide. Blessed is the second hand who doesn’t waste any time waiting for the next moment because it is too busy being a moment. Blessed are the beagles, who are happy to see us no matter how bad they or we have been. They teach us about grace and unconditional love. Blessed are the fireflies, for, through the absurdity of bottoms that light up like light bulbs, they delight us and put us in mind of fairies and other impossibilities. Blessed are the five-line skinks, who carry a musical staff on their backs. At the end of each skink’s piece is its astonishingly bright, metallic turquoise coda. Blessed are the katydids, for, by simply being who they are and doing what comes naturally, they can awaken tranquility and beauty in the hearts of those who listen. Blessed are the butterflies whose apparently random courses must be responses to miniscule air currents or maybe they just have short attention spans, but who make us think that, despite the winds of fortune and our distractibility, maybe we’ll eventually get to where we’re going, too.

Beatrice gets up at dawn and makes the cinnamon toast. She knows the things her children love and tries to give them most. She sends her kids on their way to work and play and sing. She prays they'll have the strength to face the trials that life can bring. Beatific Beatrice loves the orphan and the poor. To the weary and the hungry she holds an open door. Beatific Beatrice loves the alien and strange. When society shuns the marginal, she advocates for change. Chorus: Beatific Beatrice loves the lonely, lame, and lost. She prays that each of us will find our personal Pentecost. She knows the power of small things, like birds and bugs and boys. She shows that worldly power cannot compete with simple joys. puts her finger on her children's toes and prays for every one. She prays they'll go where they should go and do what must be done. She tickles them rambunctiously and giggles when they squirm. She'll be on hand to guide them in all that they must learn. Daniel is a transient and sometimes passes through. Richard's in a bed upstairs fighting off the blues. Carmen's on the top floor studying for a test. They and all her children arise and call her blessed. Chorus When brother falls off of his bike, she patches up his knee. He runs outside to climb the rotting branches of a tree. When sister has a nightmare, Bea's presence brings her peace, brings comfort to her fevered brow when drugs won't bring release. Chorus

I went to the shaman and paid him the price. I had problems with my music; I had problems with my life. He said, "Don't you see the two are intertwined? How can you have eyes that see but still are truly blind?" I said, "Wish I could tell how things were meant to be.” He said, "Son, you need to play in the key of see." He said, "Music is vibration; vibration brings release. What you do with music can make war or can make peace." I said, "How can this thing have such different ends? How can it make enemies? Can music make us friends? Wish I had an inkling of how things should be.” He said, "Son, you need to sing in the key of see." The shaman got his rattle out and shook it all night long. I drifted off to sleep, but then I heard a song. The music opened up a door before my eyes. Through it, I could see mankind's joys and cries. The music expressed the deepest feelings there. I joined my voice with all I heard; I sang without a care. I can't begin to describe what this means to me. He said, "You just sang a song in the key of see."
